Three Promo Videos!

Yes, I do lots of Promo videos, I thought I would push these three into one post. I have been really busy recently, and I wanted to share these on here. They are all different styles, but all worth a watch, and as usual I loved producing all of these!

JesusLoves

So the first is one I did for the JesusLoves Conference, which is a yearly conference in Liverpool that I lead the media coverage for. I was asked to produce a short promo film for them and after lots of options and concepts we came up with what you see below. It works with and without sound which suits the use of Facebook adverts and promotion on there.

North Manchester Church Launch

This is one I did for the Church I’m part of, who are starting to meet in a new location in North Manchester. I had borrowed the DJI osmo, and it turned out really great in helping show excitement! The rest of the promo was filmed on my G7. I really enjoyed putting the video together, and works really well as a promo video.

His Presence 2017

This is another promo video like the JesusLoves one but again is very different since it doesn’t have any footage from the event. This is because the event it totally new. It is going to be a great one, and I’m looking forward to being there to film it in March. The brief was fairly straight forward although being a new client it took a few rounds of edits to find exactly what they were looking for.

Thanks for reading, and do send me an email if you are looking for a video like any of the above, or perhaps something else, I am always looking to try new things!

——- update 1/2/17 ——-

I have just noticed each one of these videos is hosted with a different provider. I am finding myself recommending facebook as the main location to host videos more and more to clients. This is because it allows brands to have the maximum reach on their facebook page. Perhaps I will do a post about what works best…

Show Up North Conference – Christians in Politics

This was a great conference to be part of, a full day of Christians from all over the political spectrum meeting to discuss politics. My role was like any other conference, to capture the event and all that was happening. I was asked to create a highlights film along with a set of photos from the day, both turned out really well. Along with the highlights, I also produced full-length recordings of each seminar.

The video was shot on my G7 + BMPCC, and the sound recording came straight from the desk using my Tascam Dr-05. I used my Rode Video Mic to record a number of testimony clips at the end of the day.The photos were, as usual, taken on my Pentax K5. Capturing a conference of any type is always good fun, there could be any number of scenarios and situations throughout the day and it’s important to be prepared for them all.

Immerse Film – Weekend Away Promo

This was a film created to promote the 2017 Young adults and student’s weekend away. It was not something I produced on my own, but with help from Mike and Tony for the actual poem. I was predominantly the editor, although lines do blur on a small team. Editing, Sound and Colour all done in Premiere Pro CC 2015.3. I am enjoying Premiere more and more at the moment.

The film is all about going deeper and immersing ourselves in God. Alongside this, the event is promoted, by using the poem that points continually to the theme and idea behind the weekend away. Promotional videos like this tend to work very well.

The film

The whole project couldn’t have taken place without makerbook.net, or freesound for the sound effects, and soundstripe for the music as usual. It took a day or so to edit, plus all the time mike spent on finding stock footage and planning.

Awakening Europe – Scandinavia

The Brief

Where do I start with this, Awakening Europe was incredible and a real privilege to be part of it. The event saw thousands of Christians gather from all over Scandinavia and Europe. Ben Fitzgerald and GODFest Ministries hosted the event. The event had the heart to disturb the normal and see Stockholm and Europe saved. It also equipping people to share the gospel. God TV streamed the event live and the event will soon be on their website to rewatch.

The brief was to capture the testimonies from the event, along with creating Roundup videos of each day.We played videos on the main event screens to open each of the conference sessions. The roundup videos were also put up onto the event’s facebook page, gathering collectively over 180,ooo views over the weekend. I needed to create the videos in very short time frames. They played the first video at 2pm on Saturday, with only footage from the previous evening’s session.

Testimony Videos

Testimony videos are incredibly important for many events, especially for ones where capturing what God is doing at the conference. We captured lots of salvation stories, along with healings. There aren’t any of these videos online yet, but keep an eye on the Awakening Europe’s Facebook page for some to be released in the coming weeks.

The testimony videos were, as a majority, and filmed in a studio we set up for the weekend. It consisted of three Arri Event Lights and my BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera. We recorded the sound with my Rode VideoMicro, on a mic stand just out of shot and the mic was plugged straight into the Tascam DR-05. Matt Higham filmed these interview/testimony videos, see the team section of this post to find more about what he does.

Roundup Videos

These were the bulk of the workload on the project. I was the editor for these videos. The heart behind these is to help engage people at the start of the meeting and build faith for the upcoming session. Building social buzz is a huge reason behind these videos – putting them online and helping people, not at the event see what is happening.

The editing process on these videos was a similar process to the way I edited at the JesusLoves conference, except on a larger scale. I picked up footage from God TV after each session, and along with this, I had the footage the media team filmed. Then, I combined all this footage to create the roundup videos throughout the videos and watching the footage was the most time-consuming part of the job.

I edited the footage in Premiere Pro CC, which is new for me on this kind of project. The closing graphic was made in After Effects and I am really enjoying premiere’s track based editing (vs FCX), and the Lumetri Colour panel. The colour correction on the videos was all the same, and the majority of the styling was done with curves.

Live Streaming JesusLoves16

JesusLoves16 was amazing, and you can still watch the whole thing on Facebook Live. I love being part of the conference every year. This year was no exception. The demands of the conference always push what is possible in the time and budget. This year, a week before the event started I was called to say that they needed to live stream the event due to being sold out. I said yes, jumping to put it all together and make it happen. Although I must say now, I couldn’t have done it without the great team we had helping during the week.

Live streaming

There were so many complex parts to this project, but that’s what make me work best. We already had a good number of people on the production/media team for the week so we were sorted there. But we needed to get hold of the right equipment. I went with the Blackmagic ATEM Production Studio 4K as I am familiar with how it works. The price to hire also helped. Along with the switcher and cables, I used a couple of HDMI to SDI convertors to get round the 20m limit on HDMI cables.

Camera wise, we used three cameras, two Lumix G7s, and one BMPCC. The pictures looked a bit out, with the BMPCC being noticeably flatter than the G7 image, but it held up with the G7s in cine d. Doing it again I would look to have all the cameras matched better, but also have a couple more angles. With the changing stage lights etc, you can get away with cameras that are not perfectly matched.

On the computer side of things, we ran the program output of the switcher into an Intensity shuttle, on a MBP Retina 13″. On there we ran OBS, streaming straight to Facebook Live. It worked a dream once we figured out how to get the audio working, along with delaying the audio get the audio in sync.

I have embedded the stream from the last night for you to see. You can find the other sessions on the JesusLoves Facebook Page.

Other Media + Photos

We didn’t just provide the live stream but also daily round up/highlight videos and Quote images. I didn’t do any photography during the week, we had a number of photographers during the week including Andy Yates.

To sum up, it all went well. There are many things we all learnt, and in so many ways we will improve for next time. If you have an event, or are thinking of using Facebook Live or any other live streaming platform I would love to chat to you, and see if I can help you.

Fusion: Escape and Pray

Fusion is a UK charity that works to equip churches for mission into universities and to see every student connected with a church. We were asked to edit together a video to promote Escape and Pray 2016.

Escape and Pray is explained well in the video below. I was given footage from the 2015 event and asked to create a short promotional video. This way of working is ideal when budgets are tight, and when footage had already been filmed as in this case.

Type: Promotional Video
Length: 45 seconds
Date: December 2015
Software: Adobe Premier Pro CC + After Effects CC
